Frames for painting
Tanjore paintings are usually done in sizes (in inches) - 6x7 (Master), 6x8, 8x10, 10x12, 12x15, 16x20,18x24. (Having said that, we have done several large paintings to suit our customer needs.) The frames that are usually used for tanjore art are - in order of price starting from the lowest :-
1. Ordinary wood frame
2. Gold frame
3. Gold Ornamental frame
4. Chettinad Plain frame
5. Chettinad 'V' frame
6. Chettinad Mani frame
7. Chettinad V+ Mani frame
8. Mounted painting
These outer frames can be finished with either glass or acrylic. Acrylic is more expensive but is non breakble. However, precautions need to be taken to ensure that the surface is not scratched.
The approx weight of paintings after the framing is (Painting size in Inches)
Painting 6x8 - after approx 1" frame - 1kg (approx)
Painting 8x10 - after approx 1.5 inch frame - 2kg (approx)
Painting 10x12 - after approx 1.5 inch frame- 4kg (approx)
